Snow Geese Migrations

Snow Geese by the Skagit Farmlands

Is there anything better than to see the Snowgeese against the snow? Sitting there by the side of the road, listening to the quietness that seems to fall with the snow, there is something beautiful hearing their cackling. Even in the dark, before they take-off, you can hear them stir. Once they’re awake and getting ready though, you know the volume is going to just keep on going up, until they’re all raised into the air and onto their journey for the day.

Do you wonder where they go all day?

It’s easy to watch them through the Skagit Flats and around Conway as you’re driving, whether on i5, Route 20, 520 or Best Road. They are everywhere!

I’ve learned recently that the majority of snow geese actually stay for the winter in this area rather than making their long trek down to California. Hey, it’s hot in California, and there’s a reason we chose to relocate here instead of Cali too, maybe we were onto something.

Whatever the reason, we hope to see more snow geese than last year! Not that we didn’t have many snow geese last year too, but I guess we could never have too many.

Have you seen the snow geese this year? Go on out for a drive, either early morning, just after sunrise, or in the afternoon and watch them form their Vs, or not. It’s always a great experience to know they come back year after year.
